Friends of York Steiner School Ceilidh – 1st announcement

It is with great pleasure – and not a little excitement – that we announce the 1st Friends of York Steiner School Ceilidh!

Friends of York Steiner School (FOYSS) is our fledgling organisation for alumni and their families, ex-staff members, volunteers and anyone with a connection to our school. We put together FOYSS newsletters sharing stories from Friends as well as news from school, helping us all to stay in touch. This ceilidh is our first invitation to our Friends to get together, to renew old connections as well as making new ones,  and to share the spirit of the school once more.

The ceilidh will be held on Saturday 4th October at York Steiner School.

We invite you to arrive from 5 pm to meet and enjoy a quieter chat before the music starts. There will also be an exhibition of contemporary art held in school over the weekend for to you enjoy with a drink and a nibble.

The festivities will begin from 7 pm, with dancing and music through until 10 pm -ish!

A buffet will be provided during the ceilidh, to keep up your energy for the dancing!

This invitation is offered freely to all who would consider themselves a Friend of York Steiner School – all we ask is that you let us know if would wish to attend by sending a message letting us know the number of places to reserve to:  friends@yorksteinerschool.org

Please help us by sharing this invitation as widely as possible! Thank you, and we look forward to meeting you again soon!

Art Exhibition to be held in School

We are pleased to announce that York Steiner School will be hosting an exhibition of contemporary art over the weekend of 3rd – 5th October 2014.

The exhibition, entitled ‘The Balancing Act’ features six artists with close associations to our school.

The six independent local artists will be bringing together pieces in six – or more -distinct media. The artists are particularly keen to engage with the public directly, outside of the gallery system, giving them the freedom to exhibit the pieces they wish, without commercial considerations or pressures.

The poster for the exhibition can be viewed below. If you would like further information please feel free to get in touch with the artists at balancing.york@gmail.com.

The artists exhibiting are:

Eoghan Bridge – renowned sculptor, vociferously independent (http://eoghanbridge.wordpress.com/), and recently featured in The Press. Eoghan is a parent at school.

Vivienne Morpeth – textiles artist and teacher, specialist in nuno felting and has exhibited nationally for many years. Vivienne recently left school after finishing 8 years as a class teacher.

Alun Kirby – photographer, specializing in alternative and analogue processes, particularly camera-less photograms. He has also produced the book Glove Story. Alun is a parent at school and also our Bursar.

Jane Schaffer – ceramicist. Jane, trained in Japan and Sweden, recently celebrated 25 years as a potter and regularly exhibits both independently and in galleries both in the UK and overseas. Jane’s studio is in our business wing, and Jane makes mugs with each class 4.

Nick Ellwood – illustration and digital media. Nick’s design has featured on stage and in major public art festivals, and his recent images of Mesut Ozil as the ideal German, and of Martin Amis, have featured in The Guardian, La Stampa, El Pais, Le Monde and other leading newspapers across Europe.

Helen Mackfall – painter. Helen has painted most of her life, although dedicating much of her talent to teaching. Several of her pupils have gone on to Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy, London. Helen is our current class 5 teacher.
