Spring into action! Fair date set!

Save the date – Saturday May 14 will be our much anticipated Spring Fair – our first in two years! Lots of new attractions this year as we go all out to celebrate our wonderful community and bring everyone together once more. If you would like to book a stall or help out please contact fairs@yorksteinerschool.org

VIP visit to our eco-friendly school!

We’re so proud of our green credentials in school and will share our success this week with MP Rachael Maskell and Steiner Fellowship Executive Director, Fran Russell as they pop in to school to find out more. All the children will meet our special guests while Classes 6,7 and 8 will also take part in MP’s Question Time to find out Rachael’s thoughts on getting other UK schools to follow our example. At the end of the visit, Rachael and Fran will cut the (reusable knitted) ribbon on our latest new bike shed and Class 8’s impressive new plastics recycling area.

It’s panto time! (Oh yes it really is)

We’ve got back-to-back performances of all kinds of seasonal traditional (and not so traditional) plays, pantos and musical productions in every year group, right across the school. Many of these have been written by the children themselves – all delivered with great confidence and big smiles, ready for the whole school community to enjoy. Seasons Greetings one and all!

Carols in the Woods – join us!

Families and friends are invited to come along to a torchlit Advent Gathering on Sun Nov 28 (Advent Sunday) at 4pm for our favourite traditional carols – in Danesmead Woods. Meet at the Big Tree!

Advent Fair biggest ever?

We’re back and bursting with bookings from artisan craftspeople – with lots of new sellers this year joining our Fair favourites.  You’ll find all our most loved children’s areas and activities (including the Gnome Gardens and the Secret Grotto) with plenty of new surprises this year, and the corridors will ring out with music, singing and entertainment throughout the day.

Doors open at 10am on Nov 20. See you there!

(Please be prepared to pay by card whenever possible this year in line with current guidelines.)

Biggest School Bike Ride in the UK?

“An incredible achievement,” – Sustrans, “York Steiner School are showing the art of the possible,” – Cycling UK. There was universal praise for this year’s WOW (Waldorf One World) sponsored all-school bike ride along the Solar System cycle track to Selby on Friday.  There was also plenty of press coverage as we realised we may be the only school in the UK where every child from the age of 6 to 14, takes part in a ride of this kind.

We’ve been doing it for more than 20 years and raised well over £40,000 for WOW projects across the world in that time. Find out more here and here!

Look into The Nook!

Our beautiful new community room (The Nook) is becoming really popular – pop in any time for a posh coffee or wide range of organic teas, browse our shop, join one of our crafty clubs or just relax among friends. Always open, always a warm welcome!

Making headlines!

Delighted with our 40th Anniversary feature in the York Press this month which traces the incredible journey of our school and the people who made it all happen with just a few pounds in the bank and a dream…. You can read it online here:

What makes Steiner teachers so unique?

If you’ve ever wondered about Steiner education and how we teach it – why not come along to our NESST (North of England Steiner Teacher Training) Taster day and find out whether you could teach in a Steiner school or how you could enrich your existing practice in a mainstream school. This is open to everyone on Sat September 18 from 10-4pm at our school. All info here.

What a Wonderful Work Week!

The school is gleaming thanks to our army of parents, friends and staff who all gave their time gladly to set the school up ready for a fresh start in September. All the classrooms have been painted and scrubbed ready to welcome new children for another wonderful year of learning in our lovely school.
