In Class One (age 6/7) the children still delight in playful activity and the world of imagination. Using fairy stories, movement and different artistic activities as a starting point the class teacher introduces letters and numbers as living beings.
By the end of the year the child will have learnt to write simple sentences, and their reading will emerge from what they themselves write. In maths the child gradually acquires familiarity with and flexibility within the number sequence and times-tables and meets the four basic processes in a lively and imaginative context that relates them to real human life situations.
The children explore the natural world through stories which capture the essence of the flowers, animals and elements of the local environment.
