Our Class 3 children are age 8 and 9 years old. Class 3 had an exciting week last week as they continued to learn about Shelters and Dwellings in their Main lesson.
On Tuesday, the current class 8 joined them to put together a nomadic Siberian tent called a Chorama Dyu. This was a structure that the Class 8 students had made when they themselves were in Class 3.

On Wednesday the class paid a visit to York Handmade Brick Company in Alne to watch the process of bricks being made, even getting to make one themselves. A huge thank you for this wonderful opportunity.[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="14" gal_title="I can - build a shelter"]Around the age of 9 or 10, children can feel an increased sense of separateness from the world around them. This can often be a cause of distress and can lead to feelings of isolation. The curriculum in Class 3 is carefully designed to ground the children and help them to develop their understanding of their place in the world through traditional hands on crafts and skills. We've been talking about how the Steiner Waldorf teachings help to develop resilience, connection and grounded confidence. You can read more about this approach in this blog from our Early Years Manager: 'I can!' Building resilience, confidence and connection.
